Monolithic Slab Foundations
Monolithic concrete slab is a cost effective method for constructing cement floors or any type of garage concrete floor. When you are pouring a concrete slab simultaneously with the footing as as a single entity, the term commonly used by designers is Monolithic slab. This is a preferred method of contractors and builders due to the time and money saved.
MONOLITHIC SLAB FOUNDATION NOTES
Monolithic Slab Foundations
1. Concrete floor typically poured monolithically or separate from the footing.
2. Rebar or fiber mesh is recommended to prevent cracking due to settling.
3. Requires less construction time and labor than the T-Foundation.
4. The base of the footing should extend below the frost line.
Rebar- Reinforcing steel bars used to strengthen concrete.

Transverse Rebar – Vertical Steel support bars tied to longitudinal bars at regular intervals used to prevent cracking.

Longitudinal Rebar – Steel Support bars placed along the bottom portion of the footing used to carry tensile loads.

Rebar measured in 1/8th" Diameters
Longitudinal Rebar – Horizontal Steel Support bars placed along the bottom of the footing.
Transverse Rebar – Vertical Steel support bars extruding out of the concrete footing.
Frost Line - Depth to which soil will freeze
Polyethelene – Vapor barrier sheeting used to block moisture
