The purpose of Building Information modeling (BIM) is to provide insight for creating and managing building and infrastructure projects faster, more economically, and with less environmental impact.
Building Information Modeling (BIM)
Building Information Modeling (BIM) Assignment
Directions: You have just completed the design of your restaurant and are ready to begin your Building Information Modeling CAD File. You will begin by mapping out your BIM similar to the image at the top of the page. Follow the steps below:
1. Open a New CAD drawing file and name it LastName_BIM.dwg
2. Click here and create this map in you CAD file.
3. Add the data text and arrow information using the image to the right.
4. Fill in each outside bubble with appropriate information. Add four
teams to the remaining bubbles.
5. Add the following test to your BIM:
- Faster design process in real time
- More economical
- Controlled and Efficient Communication
- Less environmental impact
5. Add your BIM image to your website.
Advantages BIM with CAD Software:
- Instantly share new building information
- Enhance communication with all design teams
- Create a design with actual parts and info
- Analyze efficiency of the design
- Work with multiple design teams
- Single set of architectural plans
- Building Location accuracy
- Develop a fabrication schedule
- Develop a construction schedule
- Plan the operations and maintenance
- Ability to redesign or renovate in the future
- Add/Update information to model continuously
BIM Summary
Building Information Modeling is the process of managing building data through the creation of a BIM that covers not just geometry and spatial relationships but also geographic information and properties of building components. The BIM creates models of the building's actual parts, and includes data pertaining to that part, such as size and model number. When a building model is shared between the design team, the construction company, and the owner/operator, the data loss is minimized. The BIM process actually allows for data to be continually added to the model.
